Category: Let's talk
I didn't think this belonged in any of the accessibility forums, so thought I'd try posting it here. My 3-year-old got a furby for Christmas, and needless to say, we're all adicted to it. I've tried using the IOS app for it, and can't seem to do a thing with it so far.
I've tried the translator portion of it, and where it says, "slide to communicate," I'll double-tap it, which I assume is usually the equivalent to a slide gesture, and put the microphone up to the furby's mouth, and it doesn't seem to do anything.
So I don't know if I'm missing something here, or if at this point the app is inaccessible, and if that's the case, I'm not sure what exactly is enaccessible about it, so not sure what to contact Hasbro about to see if they'd be willing to fix it.
Has anyone used this app, and/or had any luck with it? Aside from that, we all love it, and Hannah somehow managed to get him into some personality of some sort where next thing I knew, he was beatboxing, and I have no idea how she managed to do that, and I haven't been able to get him to do it sense lol.
I use the app to feed my Furby. LOL I think Voiceover has to be off though and you have to make sure the volume is all the way up. I don't get the translator part either. I guess it shows it on the screen but its too small for me to read.
Ok, how do you use it to feed him without voiceover being on? I've tried to access the pantry option, and I get some alert message that pops up that isn't read to me, then it just takes me into the volume settings, some button that's always dimmed, then this thing that says "slide to communicate," that never does anything.
Have you ever run across that? I hear from searches I've done on google about all these cool things people do with them, and found a video on youtube where someone got theirs' into that same mode Hannah somehow got her's into where he was beatboxing, and I have no idea how either of them managed to do that, and I thought that was cool as ever. She has another musical toy that talks and sings though, and I've put them together, and they almost comunicate with each other, and when the other toy sings, Furby dances, and that was so hilarious that I wish I could've gotten a video of it to put on youtube.
You should be able to select the food you want to feed it with Voiceover on then after you double tap the one you want turn Voice over off point your phone at your Furby and use a finger to slide the food forward towards Furby's mouth. Then you'll hear him eating or drinking whatever you gave him.
Yeah I've played music and it makes Furby dance.
wow, is ferbey different from when I had one years ago? We didn't get to pick what to feed them. Makes me want one. LOL
they can be pretty cool, we all pretty much have to compete for Hannah's lol. They have multiple personalities now, and can have an ET-like voice one minutte, then all of a sudden say "me changing," then become stiff and hunched over for about a minute, and when they start moving around and talking again, they have about the same voice/personality as a valley girl.
When they have the ET-like voice, a lot of the time, they, from what I gather, don't really like to be tickled, petted, or much having to do with affection, but love to be turned upside-down and bounced around.
You can even pull their tails and they'll react to it, and they do crazy things now like pass gas, which doesn't to me anyhow, sound 100% real, so when Hannah asked me what that sound was, I just pretend not to know.
Their eyes can change colors, shapes, and expressions too. Its pretty cool.
I don't know if it's true, but I seem to recall that years ago when Furbies were all the rage some people were able with some tinkering to get theirs to swear. And given my rather offbeat sense of humor sometimes I would probably have been one of those.
I don't doubt it; someone I went to the Rehab Center in Daytona Beach with said someone in her family, I think it was, had one, and left it on the speaker of their stereo for a long time, and next thing they knew, it was reciting bits and pieces of an 'NSYNC album this person was constantly listening to, which I thought was pretty wild. At least back then though, it was easier to replace the batteries in them.
Hannah's just all of a sudden one morning, went to sleep and never woke up again, and I couldn't find his reset button that he's supposed to have anywhere, so had to have sighted help finding the screws to replace his batteries, sense I was afraid I was going to end up taking him apart instead.
Then after I had to also have help getting the second set of batteries out of the bottom, it was a pain in the kneck getting his back on again, so he kept turning on and off again, and I was nervous I was going to break him, but he's back to working again, and I even took one of Hannah's baskets that she uses for any and everything, put one of her doll blankets into it, and made him a bed, that I surprised her with later that she puts him in when she's done with him; (at least she's supposed to,) but I've had to remind her a few times to pick him up out of the middle of the flor.
Ok, to the poster on this topic who also owns a fury, how exactly do you go about finding and pressing the reset button? Mine ended up dying on me again after just replacing the batteries only a week ago, and have no idea how to reset it, so would love some help if you can give it.
If they had had those when we were boys, I think we'd have liked it if they died realistically, death throes and rattle and all.
Well, I finally managed to get the thing up and running again, after having to contact Hasbro, learning that for some weird reason, the reset button is under the battery compartment, so found it easier at that point, sense I didn't have sighted assistance to find it, just to take out, and reinstall the batteries, so I wouldn't take a chance and ended up breaking it, which wasn't easy and took a lot of concentration and several attempts sense replacing the batteries is really tedious and they're placed at a weird angle, so it's hard to get them in there just right.
Then it can be a little difficult getting the back onn again, so the whole time I was working on him, and Hannah was insistent on sitting and watching, I had to keep reminding her not to talk to me and just let me work, and I finally got him fixed, which I was actually able to do for the first time without help, so we were both so excited, that in the end I was like "give me a hug!" and we hugged each other, then I gave him back to her to play with.
